Jenny Smoak, a North Carolina native, is currently residing in Germany and is the 4th/2nd Horn of the Göttinger Symphonie Orchester for the 2016/17 season. Having completed her bachelor’s degree and a Performance Diploma at Indiana University-Bloomington, and furthermore a Performance Diploma at the Peabody Institute, Jenny's main teachers have included Jeff Nelsen, Dale Clevenger, Richard Seraphinoff, and Denise Tryon. Among various music festivals through the years, Jenny has attended the Chautauqua Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, and the Horn Academy in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Jenny has also had the privilege of participating in masterclasses given by Gail Williams, Dale Clevenger, Michel Garcin-Marrou, and The American Horn Quartet. After having the wonderful opportunity of studying abroad for a semester in Vienna in 2009, Jenny knew she always wanted to head back to Europe someday, somehow. Since moving to Germany in 2015, Jenny has performed with orchestras such as the Frankfurt Opera, Deutsche Radio Symphonie Saarbrücken-Kaiserslautern, Neues Orchester Basel (Switzerland), and the Kammeroper Frankfurt. Along with her current position in the Göttinger Symphonie Orchester, Jenny is also currently pursuing her master's degree at the Music Hochschule in Mainz with Mahir Kalmik, Solo Horn of the Frankfurt Opera. In addition to modern horn, Jenny enjoys playing natural horn, traveling, hiking, and baking up a storm in her free-time.
