Artist Information

Eric Price

Composer

Eric Marshall Price was born November 8, 1944 in Philadelphia PA. He was raised in Abington PA, and graduated from Abington High School in June, 1962. Not exposed to classical music during his childhood and adolescent years, Price’s desire to compose did not begin until his early college years, when a roommate with a massive classical record collection introduced him to classical music. Also interested in a career in Psychology and Medicine, Price pursued classical composition as a side gig. He studied under Donald Rappoport at Settlement Music School in Philadelphia for a number of years. Price’s first major classical piece, which he called his Student Sonata, (Piano Sonata #1 in A minor) came around his 36th birthday.

Anna Kislitsyna

Pianist

Pianist and harpsichordist Anna Kislitsyna made her solo debut at age 10 with the Omsk Symphony Orchestra. She remains in high demand as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and educator. Recent season highlights include five new album productions with PARMA Recordings and two release concerts in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, performing Haydn and Shostakovich Piano Concertos with Helena Symphony and Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra, and returning to the Omsk Philharmonic as a soloist to give the inaugural performance on the new harpsichord.

Notes

This Piano Sonata was composed by Eric Price in the 1990’s and completed in 1994 under the tutelage of Donald Rappaport, a classical composition teacher at Settlement Music School in Philadelphia.

“My style in this sonata is much more traditional than the style of many of my other works, but I feel it is my best in this particular genre,” says Price.

Price is a contemporary artist whose interest in classical composition began in the 1960’s while he was attending Haverford College in Haverford PA. Price has also composed a Suite for Strings and Guitar, an Overture, two Piano Concertos, and three movements of a Symphony. Computer simulations of all of these works and live performances of two of his sonatas can be found on Price’s YouTube channel.
