Michael J. Evans

 

Michael J. Evans is an American composer based in Washington, D.C. He was born in Canton, Ohio in 1964 and began studying piano and woodwinds at age 10. He attended Kent State University where he continued his studies with piano and composition. After college, he came to Washington, D.C. during the great punk migration of the 1980’s.

 

Michael’s compositions have been premiered in Washington, D.C. Paris, and Portsmouth, NH. He has recorded with the wonderful pianist Karolin Rojahn, as well as the Kiev Philharmonic, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Moravian Philharmonic. He recently recorded his anti-concerto for Bassoon with the winner of the 66th Prague Spring International Music Competition, Jan Hudeček and the Moravian Philharmonic. His pieces are currently released on the Navona label of PARMA Recordings.
