Oboist Margaret Helfer Herlehy received her training at the University of Michigan and Sarah Lawrence College where she remained as Artist in Residence for a five-year tenure. Throughout the 1980s, Ms. Herlehy became immersed in the New York contemporary music scene where she premiered works at annual Carnegie Recital Hall performances. On relocating to New England, she joined the faculties of Phillips Exeter Academy and later, the University of New Hampshire, and enjoys working as a freelance artist performing in the Greater Boston Area. Reaching to extend her voice with the oboe Margaret recently produced and performed Café 1930, a collection of South American music including choros and sambas with classical/jazz guitarist David Newsam and Boston-based Brazilian jazz artists. The CD was released in 2015 and has caught the attention of radio stations in both the United States and Central America and has been praised by jazz critics as “powerfully intoxicating.” Margaret lives an eclectic musical life on the New Hampshire seacoast.
