Advancing and invigorating the art of chamber music for tenor, baritone, and bass voices across genres and generations through world-class performance, education, and commissions; within New England and across the United States.
From humble beginnings (a haphazard recreational night of singing in a practice room of New England Conservatory in Boston MA), Renaissance Men has emerged as one of the most exciting and vital professional male vocal chamber ensembles in America, having been called the “East Coast answer to Chanticleer” [Cinemusical]. Colloquially known as “RenMen,” the ensemble has grown by leaps and bounds over five years — fifteen rostered musicians, eight mainstage concert series, a growing national tour schedule, numerous collaborations with regional arts organizations (including a presentation of music from the British Isles and Ireland called RenMen On This Island as part of the Emmanuel Music Late Night Series in 2019), development of educational opportunities, and now an international profile. RenMen’s debut album, RENMEN LAMENTS, released in 2019, has now been heard in over eighty countries worldwide.
A Very RenMen Christmas LIVE! is the culmination of five years’ worth of programming from our annual A Very RenMen Christmas galas, a beloved annual holiday tradition in Greater Boston and now a popular winter touring show throughout New England. While it is impossible to capture the joviality of the in-person experience (the festive outfits, hors d’oeuvres by a former local Masterchef contestant, and of course, the annual indulgence of Peter’s infamous old fashioned eggnog) we hope this recording will evoke warm, fuzzy feelings like your favorite Christmas sweater and invite giggles born from your most cherished childhood memories of the season. Especially in the 2020 season, closeness has never been more essential. May this collection of timeless seasonal music, be it classic renditions or extraordinary contemporary arrangements, encourage the joy, healing, and hope we all long for — today, and, for auld lang syne.
