Andrew Anderson

Andrew Anderson (born 1971) studied composition with Rodney Ford, violin with Barbara O’Reilly, and piano with Arvon McFadden in Melbourne, Australia. His choral writing is informed by engagements with parish choirs in the United States and the UK, as well as tuition in singing with Nigel Wickens (Cambridge UK).

His works have been recorded internationally by the Czech Philharmonic and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and have been performed by leading Australian ensembles including The Consort of Melbourne, Omega Ensemble, and the Streeton Trio.

Anderson is also interested in encouraging community engagement in music performance, co-founding the University of Melbourne Artists Register for this purpose. His scores are published by the Australian Music Centre.

Consisting of some of Australia’s finest instrumentalists, the Australia Piano Quartet is dedicated to providing distinctive, rejuvenating interpretations of familiar and less familiar piano quartet masterworks, alongside commissioning new works for the repertoire. They have performed extensively, including at the Sydney Opera House, Wigmore Hall, and the Barbican Centre. As long-term Artists in Residence at the University of Technology Sydney, they collaborate with staff and external stakeholders in projects ranging from audio-visual art installations to biomedical engineering technologies for improving the independence of people with disabilities. The quartet premiered Anderson’s Piano Quartet in C minor at the Melbourne Recital Centre in November 2014. Anderson’s second quartet is dedicated to the ensemble.
